The Retreat Centre was designed to blend in seamlessly with the tropical Nicaraguan environment. Patios and ample overhangs offer protection from the sun and keep the rooms cool. The main house is where all the meals are shared and also provides spaces for lounging, reading, board games and group activities.
There are numerous nooks and hammocks around the villa offering space and solitude. Our 900 sq ft workshop pavilion is right beside the villa and overlooks the ocean, as does our infinity swimming pool.
The Retreat Centre can accommodate 19 guests in a mix of 7 double occupancy rooms that can be set up as either two single beds or one king bed. Additionally, there is a room that sleeps up to 4 people. Each bedroom has ceiling fans for comfort and glass sliding doors that open to the sights and sounds of the jungle. All beds are equipped with mosquito nets, all bathrooms have hot water showers. Most of the rooms share a bathroom between two rooms, while two have private bathrooms.
Arrebol sits about 1200 feet above San Juan Del Sur with spectacular views of the town, the bay, the sunsets, the blue Pacific, and Costa Rica in the distance. We are close to town, yet away from the hustle and bustle. Sitting a bit higher not only provides amazing views, but the breeze and cooler temperatures are much more comfortable.
Tucked away on a 240-acre organic farm, Arrebol is one of 8 houses privately scattered around the property. On property there are gardens employing permaculture principles, livestock that includes cows, horses, pelibuey (sheep-goat hybrids), and chickens. The sustainable forestry practice provides lumber for the on-farm woodworking shop, which produced almost all the furniture here on the farm. There is also a Moringa (superfood) growing and drying operation. An International School, putt-putt golf, a bakery and coffee shop and a skateboard park. There are nature trails for you to explore the property by foot.
Our most exotic wildlife are two types of tree sloths, the two-toed and three-toed sloth are residents on the farm and can be seen year-round. Howler monkeys are seen or heard almost every day and less common are white-faced and spider monkeys. Giant iguana, although hard to spot, are abundant here. We have ring-tailed foxes on the farm, coyotes, small forest deer, armadillos, anteaters, opossum, porcupines. We see rare tropical birds such as scarlet Macaws and our national bird the Guardabarranco, a turquoise-browed motmot, a very colorful medium-sized bird with a fancy tail, magpies are commonly seen at the houses as well as wild tropical parrots, weaver birds, falcons, owls and many types of bats.
